Ligon Duncan on Suffering

This video, which is from the 2012 Together for the Gospel conference, features Ligon Duncan delivering one of the greatest sermons I have ever heard.  I have come back and listened to this many times and always recommend for anyone to listen and listen intently.  From the T4G description:

God teaches His servant through disappointments in his Christian life. During these times, God exposes you to what you truly love and believe. Your disappointments reveal what you rest in, find satisfaction and security in, and where your ultimate treasure lies. However, you can be rest assured that His provision is loving. He will relentlessly and ruthlessly pursue you in his compassion and grace for your joy.

Though he mentions that he is speaking to pastors/ministers, the truths are the same for anyone.  One need just listen and can easily apply it to their situation.

Matt Chandler on Suffering

Matt Chandler, pastor at The Village Church in Dallas, preached on the need for pastors to prepare their congregations for suffering.  Since hearing that sermon, I have made it a personal mission to do just that.  Perhaps, I may sound like a broken record sometimes, or perhaps I may seem like a downer, but that isn’t my intention.  I am wanting to be faithful to God’s Word that promises us suffering in this life because of the fallen universe and fallen body in which we exist.  Here is the sermon that has put suffering on the forefront of my mind as I pastor.  It is not just about preparing the congregation to suffer, but Matt Chandler also testifies to his own time of horrific suffering as he was diagnosed with brain cancer.
